Plastic Impellers: Special shaped items for mixing
What Is an Impeller?
An impeller is the rotating component found in mixers, agitators, and pumps. Its purpose is to move fluids by creating flow and turbulence, ensuring that liquids, powders, or gases are properly combined. In practice, impellers are what make it possible to achieve uniform blending, effective heat transfer, or reliable dispersion inside a tank or reactor.
Depending on the process, impellers can take many different forms. Some are designed with angled blades that push fluids both downward and outward, making them ideal for general-purpose mixing. Others resemble turbines with multiple flat blades that generate high shear forces, which are necessary for breaking down solids or dispersing gases into liquids. For thicker materials such as gels, creams, or pastes, broader anchor- or paddle-shaped impellers are used to keep the entire mass moving.
In every case, both the design and the material of the impeller determine its effectiveness. That’s why various high-tech materials are chosen, e.g when resistance to harsh conditions are required.
